To the National Korean Canadian Community
Veterans Week (Nov. 4-11, ending with Remembrance Day) is an importance week in Canada that calls on each of us to pause and remember all those who have made sacrifices in wars and conflicts throughout Canada's military history.
November 10 is especially significant for the veterans of the Korean War, their families and supporters; and for the national Korean community. The significance is captured in an annual observance called "Turn Toward Busan", to remember the 379 Canadians that are buried in the UN Memorial Cemetery in Busan, Korea.
Please find attached a special "Turn Toward Busan" package that includes the following:
· Backgrounder about the "Turn Toward Busan" initiative
· Information about the "Turn Toward Busan" website created by MPVA, and interactive components on the website
· Special message from Minister Park Sung-choon, Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs, calling on Canada (and the International community) to "Turn Toward Busan" on Nov. 10
· List of "Turn Toward Busan" ceremonies being planned in various places within Canada, on or around Nov. 10
It is our shared goal for as many people to take part in or observe a moment of silence on November 10th (at the exact time as the one that will take place in the UNMCK on November 11, 2014, 11AM).
Thank you for your efforts to organize and encourage participation of your regional Korean communities during Veterans Week.
We must never forget the sacrifices that have been made to give us our freedoms. We will remember them. Lest we forget.
Sincerely,
Yonah Martin
Deputy Leader of the Government in the Senate
